Downtown at Valor Acres Opened Its Street Before Its Shops

The sidewalks are wide, the landscaping is in and the curb bump-outs are built. The final layer of asphalt still isn't down. NEOtrans walked the district in late September and reported that the main street at Downtown at Valor Acres is now open to pedestrians. Streetscaping is mostly finished in the core, but every street still needs its final paving.

The street is open, but most of the buildings along it are not yet open to the public. Cleveland Magazine's status report from September 29 said no storefronts had opened yet. Luna Bakery & Café and the ATONED studio were still listed as tenants getting ready.

That gap shapes how the $678 million development off Miller Road works for anyone who already lives in Brecksville. The people came first. The offices and apartments filled before the shops did. So this fall, Valor Acres works best as a place to go for dinner or a drink, built around three businesses that were open before the main street was.

The three businesses that were open before the street

All three are in or next to the office building that houses DiGeronimo Companies, the master developer behind the project. NEOtrans lists The Post, Flour and Masu as already open, all on the office building's ground floor or beside it.

The Post is the oldest of the three. It's an indoor/outdoor bar on Valor Square that DiGeronimo Companies opened in August 2025. Its announcement listed indoor and covered seating for more than 100 people and outdoor space for about 500 around it. That outdoor space is the important part. Valor Acres describes Valor Square as a public green meant for food trucks, live music and family movie nights, and The Post sits at its edge. A recent event listing gives its address as 5710 Independence Drive.

The hours on The Post's page are still labeled "Spring and Summer Hours." Check before you make a late weeknight trip, because those times may change as the weather turns.

Masu is the sit-down restaurant in the group, and it has now been open almost a year. Cleveland Magazine covered its opening on November 19, 2025. The restaurant belongs to Chef Jake McDaniel, with Dante Boccuzzi as partner. It serves Japanese sushi built on sustainably sourced seafood and fish dry-aged in house. Midday brings poke bowls and grab-and-go options. Masu's site lists 5720 Independence Drive, Suite 110, with this schedule:

  • Lunch: Tuesday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Dinner: Tuesday through Thursday, 4 to 9 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, 4 to 10 p.m.
  • Happy hour: Tuesday through Friday, 4 to 6 p.m.

The restaurant is closed Sundays and Mondays. On those nights, The Post is the main option on the square.

Flour is the third, and we've written about it before. It's a big reason the district already gets dinner traffic from elsewhere in town, before any of the new retail has opened.

Who fills the district on a weekday

The order in which Valor Acres has opened explains why it already has a weekday population but still has no shops to visit on a Saturday morning.

The biggest employer came first. Sherwin-Williams' Morikis Global Technology Center at 6701 Miller Road is a 600,000-square-foot research facility. NEOtrans reports that about 900 employees work there, moved from Downtown Cleveland and Warrensville Heights.

More offices are following. DiGeronimo Companies moved its own operations to Valor Acres from Independence. Toledo-based insurance broker Hylant has announced a similar move. CSA Group's U.S. headquarters, also moving from Independence, rose over the summer just north of The Post. It will cover more than 290,000 square feet of labs and offices. CSA Group currently has 425 employees, and it isn't yet clear how many will move to the new building. NEOtrans reports that at least 97 new positions will be created, helped by a state job-creation tax credit approved in January.

The second wave is residents. The 100-plus apartments and townhomes at Canvas at Valor Acres, on the north side, have been open for some time. The downtown core adds 221 apartments in three buildings, according to the developer's release as quoted by NEOtrans.

  1. Linden opened August 1 with 51 units.
  2. Laurel was scheduled for August 15 with 51 more.
  3. Vale, the six-story building, was scheduled for September 1 with 119 units. It's the tallest residential building on the site.

So well over a thousand people now have a weekday reason to be at Valor Acres. A Brecksville resident coming in from Highland Drive or Snowville Road is visiting a place that already has a daily routine. The retail is the part still catching up to that routine.

What's still coming, and how firm each date is

Each of the next openings has a different level of certainty. For a resident deciding when to visit, that's the most useful thing to know.

  • Luna Bakery & Café will be the Cleveland-area bakery's fourth location. Its founder, Bridget Thibeault, is behind the expansion, according to cleveland.com. Cleveland Scene reported that the menu will include pastries, coffee and espresso, plus breakfast and lunch. The developer's May announcement said Luna was "expected to open in Fall 2026," with hours to come.
  • ATONED is a boutique fitness and wellness studio founded by Mercedes Delusive. It combines low-impact resistance training with interval conditioning and recovery amenities, according to Valor Acres' announcement. Delusive told cleveland.com in July, "We're hoping to open in the late fall."
  • AC Hotel by Marriott is under construction as a five-story building at the end of the main street, visible from Miller Road. The 2024 announcement named Shaner Hotels as operator and forecast completion by late 2026. The more recent cleveland.com report puts it in spring 2027.

The hotel's opening date has already slipped by about a season. Luna and ATONED are both aiming for the last weeks of fall, and neither has announced a date. A Saturday-morning coffee at Valor Acres is close, but it isn't here yet.

A Cleveland Clinic outpatient facility is also planned next to the hotel site, at the corner of Miller Road and Innovation Parkway. NEOtrans describes it as 60,000 square feet with 108 exam rooms for primary and specialty care. It's another reason people will come to the district on weekdays.

Two dates already on the calendar

Valor Acres hasn't announced holiday programming for the district. Its events page lists Trunk or Treat at The Post on Saturday, October 24, from 10 a.m. to noon, with treats from local businesses and family activities.

The other date is Thursday, November 12. The Real Collective is hosting a singles mixer at The Post, with a food drive for the Greater Cleveland Food Bank. Both events are at The Post, the district's one venue built for crowds and open since 2025.

Planning a visit this season

Plan a visit around the places that are open. Masu covers lunch Tuesday through Friday and dinner Tuesday through Saturday. The Post covers the hours around it and the green out front, with fall hours still to be confirmed. Flour makes it a choice of dinner spots. NEOtrans describes a large central parking garage wrapped by apartments, plus turf lawns, courtyards, benches and stone fire pits in the core. The fire pits get more appealing as the nights get colder.

Keep the rest of the list for later in the season. Luna's coffee counter and ATONED are expected before winter. The streets will be fully paved once the final asphalt goes down, and the AC Hotel is expected in spring 2027.
